Newsbits 3/1: Reviews, Virtua Tennis 3, PSP actually has a good week
February 28, 2007 on 10:47 pm | In Uncategorized | Comments OffGametrailers.com posted a few new videos such as another trailer for Burnout Dominator, and a trailer for Sudoku. Wait, isn't there already a Sudoku game for PSP? Do we really need another? Driven by excellent sales of Monster Hunter Portable 2 in Japan, the PSP sold better than the PS3 and Wii combined in the country. Demand for the Wii is of course high, but part of selling anything is having the supply meet the demand as closely as possible. Speaking of Monster Hunter Portable 2, it's been announced for release in Europe and the USA as Monster Hunter Freedom 2. No telling what sort of reception it will have outside of Japan; the first Monster Hunter Freedom game didn't exactly do too well. Game Informer even said "Monster Hunter Freedom winds up about as appealing as a pile of the Wolfman's droppings." Also in review news, IGN has reviewed MLB 07: The Show, Marvel Trading Card Game, MLB 2K7, Metal Slug Anthology, and Chili Con Carnage. Sega has announced a new PSP title called Golden Compass, based on the "His Dark Materials" trilogy of books. Sega also opened the official site for Virtua Tennis 3.
Newsbit 2/27: Free content, XMB screensaver, cheap pink, etc.
February 27, 2007 on 1:16 am | In Uncategorized | Comments OffPocketgamer.co.uk put together a pretty cool article with 23 places to get free PSP content. The YAHP is one of their links, too. Thanks tripredicus! "Agent Orange" has created a screensaver for Windows PCs that resembles the PSP's XMB waves. Amazon.co.uk has a deal on the pink PSP for 99 pounds. That's ~$193 USD. Game Watch revealed some new details about the upcoming Sangokushi VIII (Romance of the Three Kingdoms VIII). The game will apparently feature multiple endings, so you can rewrite history! IGN reviewed Bubble Bobble Evolution, and they pretty much hated it.
Our “Hackers” are famous!

PSP 'downgrading' has just become sexy news! The article states that the "Hackers" have gained the upper hand on Sony in the battle of the Firmwares! Yes, even your Granny will soon be lauding the benefits of Dark Alex's 3.03 OE over anything that Sony throws at us! Read and weep... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6397797.stm
Newsbits 2/26: $60 4GB stick, MHP2 sales numbers, blue theme, drawing PSP in MS Paint
February 25, 2007 on 11:47 pm | In Uncategorized | Comments OffFry's.com has a 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo for $60 after the mail-in rebate. Invest in your PSP's future! According to a Japanese blog named The Notebook of an Old Man who Likes Games and Movies, Monster Hunter Portable 2 sold 500,000 copies on its first day. That may explain some of those lines we heard about. He mentions some DS titles for comparison -- "Pockemon Diamond", for example, had similar first day sales figures. He MHP2 to be the PSP's first million seller (in Japan). For every black PSP theme, there's a blue one. Here's a pretty cool video over at YouTube entitled "How to draw a PSP in Ms Paint." Not recommended for beginners! The author goes by the handle RANDISALBION, and apparently he's a graphic designer.
February Contest: It’s Not Too Late
February 24, 2007 on 3:07 pm | In Uncategorized | Comments OffFebruary isn't over yet! I've just posted the February contest thread over in the forums. This month we ask you to find a hidden image on PSP-Vault and submit your entry by email. We have 1st and 2nd place winners this time around, partly because we didn't have a contest in January. 1st place gets Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, 2nd place gets a sweet PSP case. Head on over to the forums thread for more details!
Newsbits 2/23.2: Reviews, screenshots, and mini-games
February 23, 2007 on 3:36 pm | In Uncategorized | Comments OffGamespot has posted their review of Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, their review of Metal Slug Anthology, and hands-on with MACH. Konami posted screenshots of Pawapuro Portable 2 on the game's official site. PSP Fanboy mentions how you can score some free stuff by bringing your PSP to the New York Comic Con. PSPUpdates posted some new homebrew called pspWeather which looks pretty good, although maybe not something that needs homebrew support to work. Perhaps the developer can consider a web-based version. Also at PSPUpdates is a nice looking PSP theme pack to download, though keep in mind you risk bricking your PSP by installing such modifications. Target has Medal of Honor: Heroes available for $20. Score! The official site for Tomb Raider: Anniversary has launched today. Tales of Destiny 2 apparently contains a secret dungeon called "Aqua Labyrinth" that's endless. You'll face off against various enemies and can earn special items in the dungeon. The dungeon also contains an arena where you'll be pit against several characters from the "Tales of" series games, as well as guest characters. Gametrailers.com posted a few new videos such as the trailers for Freak Out and Tomb Raider Anniversary, as well as Chili Con Carnage. Square Enix has updated the Japanese Final Fantasy Tactics: Lion's War site with a special mini-game where you can win special download packages containing artwork from the game. Just click on the tiny Chocobo icon. The mini-game requires you to match up pairs of cards in 30 seconds. I don't know how many different packages there are to download, but I've managed to secure about three thus far. I went ahead and put one in the File Vault here just so you have an idea of what they contain.
