Newsbits 3/31: 3.30 decrypted, more games
March 31, 2007 on 2:57 am | In Uncategorized | Comments OffFirmware 3.30 has been decrypted. Not to jump the gun, but I suppose this means we'll see a 3.30 OE in the near future. IGN got their hands on Tomb Raider: Anniversary and Disgaea Portable. Gamespot takes a look at Dragoneer's Aria, an upcoming 3D RPG from Nippon Ichi. They also reviewed Test Drive: Unlimited, which consequently I just bought today as well. My username is zmcnulty, so add me as a friend if you so desire. Just driving around Oahu gets a bit dry, even if it's to Flight of Valkyries. Sony is released a PSP Best version of Monster Hunter Portable. This gives fans of the series a chance to pick up the first PSP iteration if they missed it, for 1,980 yen (~$16.87 USD).
PSP Video 9 FW3.30 Beta
March 30, 2007 on 9:07 pm | In Uncategorized | Comments OffPSP Video 9 FW3.30 Beta -
Category: NON-VIP-PSP PC APPLICATIONS
Description:
This release in meant for PSP users with firmware version 3.30 ONLY
This release in meant for PSP users with firmware version 3.30 ONLY. If you have not updated your PSP after March 28, 2007, you do not have firmware 3.30 and this beta version will be USELESS to you. If you have an older firmware version, please continue to use PSP Video 9 version 1.94. You can download PSP Video 9 version 1.94 here.
This is a very EARLY beta of the next version of PSP Video 9. It is so early we havent even added or tested profiles for the existing codecs and settings that have worked on the PSP prior to firmware 3.30. This version has only 2 profiles, one to convert to 480x272 and the other to convert to 720x480.
Some parts of the GUI have changed so dont expect it to look completely like the old version of PSP Video 9. To get to the familiar convert video section, hit the Convert button in the top menu and then click on the Current Conversions tab.

Once your video is converted, you must manually copy it from your computer (by default it will be in your C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\Converted Videos\PSP\MPEG4-AVC directory for XP) to your PSP memory stick. You must place the video in the root Video Folder (X:\VIDEO) for it to show up in the PSP XMB.
For currently unknown reasons, the PSP will show your 480x272 converted videos all squished initially. Change the screen mode in the display settings (Hit Triangle while the video is playing) to Full Screen to view the video in its proper 480x272 native resolution. We are looking into why this is occurring.

2.14 Changelog:
Added: PlayStation Portable Support
Updated: FFmpeg rev8435
Fixed: Audio Bitrate Units

PSP firmware 3.30 decrypted!
March 30, 2007 on 8:57 pm | In Uncategorized | Comments OffTeam C+D have released a new version of psardumper that decrypts the latest 3.30 firmware.
Here a poem snipped out of the release :
3.30 Decrypter!
* From Team Create+Destroy.. *
Some thought we failed - or had disappeared,
But $ony beware - your last hour is near.
In spite protections and multiple locks,
In spite busy lifes and - unwashed - socks,
For you to enjoy but for $ony to fear,
3.30 decrypter is ready, so cheer!
Please note that this will NOT allow 3.30 users to downgrade or run homebrew.

R10 Countdown
March 30, 2007 on 8:50 pm | In Uncategorized | Comments OffR10 Countdown
I'm in the process of tidying up my current build so that I can release R10 over the next few days.
There are a number of features/optimisations still on my TODO list, but as I promised last month, I'd like to release R10 by the end of March. I think frequent, small updates are better than keeping everyone waiting months between releases.
Although R10 will be a smaller update than R9, there are some great improvements (most of which I've already talked about):
An approximate 10-15% speedup
Frameskip, framerate limiting and stick deadzone tuning
Various small bugfixes
I'm hoping to have everything ready by Sunday afternoon at the latest.
One feature which might not make it is the Expansion Pak support. I mentioned that I'd finally fixed the bug that was preventing this from working, but I've been having difficulty resolving the various memory issues that it causes when enabled. Rather than delay R10, I'd prefer to disable the Expansion Pak support for now and release R11 early - as soon as I've fixed the underlying problem. I'll keep you posted.
