Newsbits 6/1: Japan Store updates, NFS ProStreet, iTunes for PSP, PSN cards coming, firmware 3.50 decrypted, 3.50 OE difficult
May 31, 2007 on 9:11 pm | In Uncategorized | Comments OffThe Japanese PlaystationStore has been updated, with a ton PSOne games added; mostly SNK classics. A new Need for Speed is heading to all consoles; EA announced the new Need for Speed ProStreet, which goes deeper into the street-racing culture. More information at the official site. Prepaid Playstation Network cards are soon coming to Japan, making a great gift for those who make frequent purchases at the PlaystationStore. The PSN cards can be used for media on the PS3, as well as future demos and such for the PSP. Apple announced a new section in the iTunes Store, iTunes Plus, which includes all DRM-free tracks, at a price of $1.29. The bit rate has been bumped up to 256 kbps, due to the released security. The best part? For iTunes users, DRM-free means you put the tracks on whatever you want (that supports AAC). That includes the PSP, if you're above firmware 2.0. CNET's got a review on the Blue Raven battery, which supposedly gives the equivalent of two and a half batteries with one clip-on. It got a decent score, with the negatives being the added weight and blocked UMD door. If you don't mind that, it's far more efficient than buying two additional batteries; it'll cost you a good $70. So soon?! Firmware 3.50, released just last night (this morning for some), has been decrypted! No doubt a great advancement towards the 3.50 OE firmware we're waiting for. Unfortunately, that 3.50 OE firmware may not come as fast as the previous have. Over at the MaxConsole forums, Mathieulh noted that Sony has changed the prx formats, making the process a bit more difficult. Also, Dark_Alex is currently studying for exams, so he won't have full attention on the project. Fear not, as the firmware will still be hacked, just "don't expect a new OE firmware within a matter of days". Good luck on your tests!
