Noobz gives us USB charging, while still gaming
September 30, 2007 on 10:26 am | In Uncategorized | Comments OffIf you're an owner of the newly released PSP Slim, you know that you can charge via the USB cable, instead of the typical AC adapter. What you might not have realized is that you can only USB-charge while you aren't gaming; you must be in "USB mode". Whether you knew this or not, Noobz has come up with a solution. They've just released a PSP Slim USB Charger Plugin, which allows you to charge your PSP Slim without putting the unit down. Sony probably set this limit with the same thinking as the past PSP, where you couldn't charge while the WiFi card was active. Still, we don't care, and nobody likes a dead battery. Big thanks to Noobz for the continued work with the PSP scene, and making our lives easier.

Newsbits 9/28: Dungeon Explorer demo, universal unbricker, PaRappa contest, eyePSP hack, etc.
September 28, 2007 on 10:59 am | In Uncategorized | Comments OffA new demo has been added to the Game Demos section of the File Vault. Dungeon Explorer is a Japanese demo, but it's not terribly hard to figure out. Plus it's free, so you can't argue with that. Dark_Alex (read: Team M33) has released a universal unbricker. The good news? It's compatible with both the PSP-2000 and PSP-1000 models. The bad news? It's in Spanish. If I actually retained the five years I took of the language, I might be able to help us out, but that was high school, so you're going to have to give me a break. You're on your own until some sort of English translation comes out, which will likely be soon. (Roargamer has reported that an English readme is included, and he has successfully unbricked his 3.60 PSP Slim) Sony has announced the winner of the PaRappa Character Contest: Dominik K, who created Metragnome. He'll be hooked up with a free copy of the game, and the developer will re-create his character, sign/frame it, and send it back. Cool beans. Those crazy hacking dudes at PSP Hacks have come up with an "eyePSP demo", which shows the PSP cursor responding to a moving laser on the screen. It's actually a very cool concept, and would bring some interesting programs into the homebrew scene. The hack requires a PSP Camera (Chotto Shot) and a laser pointer; see the demo below. NBA 08 features a lot of fresh material, including a new Conquest mode. You'll be able to pick your favorite NBA team, and play against other teams across the United States. Beating them will "conquer" that city and all it's players (think Risk). Dominating the red, white, and blue will unlock historical players, and all that good jazz.
English Custom Theme documentation now available!
September 28, 2007 on 2:35 am | In Uncategorized | Comments OffI just finished my translation of Sony's documentation for the Custom Theme software. Click here to download the file. It's a PDF document, about 600KB. I tried to make it as true to the original as possible. Let me know how it works. Just a reminder: we have a category in the File Vault for custom themes, so we expect to see some awesome stuff around these parts!
