Happy New Year to all of our members!

December 31, 2007 on 8:26 pm | In Uncategorized | Comments Off

It's been a wild (and even bumpy) ride at PSP-Vault this past year. A lot has happened in just 12 months; everything from cotinued hacking in the homebrew department, to insane sales in Japan, and let's not forget the PSP Slim that has become the new standard. To sum up a great year, I've compiled a short list of popular articles over the past year. They should provide some information for anyone who may be relatively new to the community, but also good references for those experienced. Enjoy! Is a PSP2 coming? (Update 1, 2, and 3) Noobz releases Pandora exploit, all firmwares can downgrade! The PSP Slim is coming! Which Slim will you buy? Additional details for the "PSP-2000" Noobz gives Phat PSP's USB-charging Dark_Alex leaving the PSP-hacking scene Dark_Alex returns, puts custom firmware on the PSP Slim Also, if you're in the mood for some good gaming, IGN, GameSpot, and GameSpy have each released their chosen Game of the Year. IGN went with Syphon Filter, GameSpot chose Puzzle Quest, and GameSpy Final Fantasy Tactics. All of those are great choices, and for some added input, zmcnulty is a die-hard Puzzle Quest fan, and I've always enjoyed the Ratchet and Clank series, particularly 2007's Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters. If you're just getting started with the Playstation Portable, we'd also like to suggest a few guides. The Firmware and Homebrew Capabilities Guide is a great place to start for any owner, to learn what Sony's firmware updates provide, and to learn about the "hacking" side of the PSP. If you don't yet own a PSP, or are looking to upgrade, you might also check out our Color Variations Guide, which details all of the PSP models over the past few years. I'll end this final post of the year with a big thanks to all of our members, those who have been with us since the start in 2005, or may have joined somewhere along the way. I'd also like to welcome any recent or future members who visit PSP-Vault frequently for the news, downloads, and the forums. We're setting some big goals for 2008, looking to make our site even more appealing and user friendly. If you aren't yet a member, feel free to read about why you should become a member, and sign up if you're gonna stick around. With a community of 70,000 members (and always growing), we hope to be your number one source for all things PSP. Everyone have a safe and happy New Year! See you in 2008!

Weekly Releases for 12/30-1/5

December 30, 2007 on 8:15 am | In Uncategorized | Comments Off

It's been a pretty slow week for PSP news, and we're not afraid to acknowledge it. Following a week of few or no releases, we're hoping, maybe even begging for additional PSN content or perhaps a new demo to play with. We'll take whatever we can get. On to the Weekly Releases... The US isn't looking at much this week, in fact they're getting another goose egg. That's alright though, because with games like Final Fantasy Tactics, Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow, and Puzzle Quest, I'm still gaming with titles that have been out for months. Europe is playing a bit of catch-up, while also getting some unique titles to their region. Japan is taking a hiatus as well, with no new releases this week. Happy New Year everyone! United States: None Europe: Bomberman Land (Hudson) - January 1st Dungeon Explorer (Hudson) - January 1st California Games (Alt. Sports) - January 1st PDC World Championship Darts 2008 (Oxygen Interactive) - January 1st C.I.D. 925: An Ordinary Life (Oxygen Interactive) - January 1st Japan: None Please note: Release dates are liable to change at any time. We provide you with the most up-to-date information each week, here at PSP-Vault. Call your local game provider to verify the release date before ordering.

Looks like DAX hasn’t quit yet: 3.80 M33 (WIP)

December 29, 2007 on 1:58 pm | In Uncategorized | Comments Off

Here's some good news for those of us looking forward to a new custom firmware for your Sony PlayStation Portables, after the coming of the official 3.80 firmware beast from Sony itself: it seems that none other than Dark AleX himself is working on it, with the official firmware itself already dumped and decrypted. This comes from a forum post from the Sony PlayStation Portable developer himself, in a thread that talks about the official firmware being ripe for the picking. The post, verbatim: Well, I will not be updating psar dumper until 3.80 M33, as for decompression it needs the 3.80 sysmem function for the new algorithm, but sysmem is also compressed with it. I'll be using the ipl function for internal decryption. Straight from the homebrew developer's keyboard. [via PSPUpdates] (If you're new to the PSP scene, you might want to check our our Firmware and Homebrew Guide, and also this Playstation Forum for additional information on what custom firmwares can do for you.)

Tips for getting Remote Play up and running

December 27, 2007 on 12:18 am | In Uncategorized | Comments Off

Here's a brief tutorial for new PSP users (or those not familiar with the new Remote Play feature) on how to get Remote Play, and the PS Store setup. Remote Start/Play requires a Playstation 3 and PSP, which must first be paired together, much like a cell phone and a bluetooth device. The PS Store is now available on the PC, and Playstation.Blog covers this too. Remote Start tips: Pair your devices through the PS3 XMB (Settings, Remote Play Settings, Register Device) Connect your PSP to the internet through any Wireless hotspot/network Go to Remote Play from your PSP Sign into the Playstation Network (PSN) with your PSN ID that you made from your PS3 After signing in, you'll see your PS3's menu on the PSP's screen. You can then launch many PSOne games, browse the PS Store, or various other interfacing. You can even turn on your PS3 from your PSP unit, from a friend's house, or any Wi-Fi hotspot. This allows you to stream any music, video, or gaming without the use of your memory stick, but instead the PS3's hard drive. It's pretty exciting when you realize the potential the PSP and PS3 have as partners. Once Playstation Home is released, the amount of functionality between them will likely double!
