Upcoming PS3 firmware 2.20 features Blu-ray transfers

March 24, 2008 on 10:20 am | In Uncategorized | Comments Off

Remember that little feature we ran back at CES that showed off Blu-ray transfer functionality? Well if you don't, we did. Otherwise it's good to mention that according to PCWorld, that capability should be coming in the close-to-releasing PS3 firmware 2.20. As reported earlier, this process will require a Playstation 3, PSP, and a USB cord. You're taking a Blu-ray disc that you own, and putting a portable version onto the PSP, for video on-the-go. The content is DRM'd, so you can't slip it onto your PSP, and then share it with all of your friends. We should also mention that the quality isn't high-definition (duh), but earlier screenshots showed H.264/MPEG-4 AVC format, which is the highest the PSP can display. Along with the Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0 (BD-Live), Playstation 3 owners will see improved DivX and WMV support, along with additional internet and AV settings. Sony says the firmware will be released late-March, so we should see it sometime this week. [PCWorld, via Gizmodo]

Aquatalk water-proofs your PSP, looks like a Ziploc

March 23, 2008 on 7:05 pm | In Uncategorized | Comments Off

If you're looking to continue God of War action in the bathtub, Aquatalk looks to bring you waterproof protection, while giving you relatively easy access to the buttons and controls. It may look like your everyday Ziploc, but they put a but more effort into the concept, offering four layers of protection, and a sturdy anti-lock seal. It's a Japanese product, so you'd have to import if you really wanted one yourself. At 740 yen (~$7 USD) a piece, they shouldn't be too hard to get. They fit both PSP models; if you get your hands on one, send us some snapshots of it underwater. Otherwise, feel free to use a few Ziploc bags.
